Why this does not convert questions correct into a score
College Board does not publish a fixed raw-to-scaled conversion table, the conversion differs between test forms, and the adaptive second module means two students with the same number correct can scale to different section scores.
Any tool that offers you "38 out of 44 correct equals 720" is guessing. This one works with section scores, which are the figures a practice test actually reports.
Both sections count equally
Reading and Writing and Math each contribute 200 to 800 points, so each is exactly half of the total. That is not how most students split their preparation.
A student at 700 Math and 520 Reading and Writing has far more available headroom in the section they have been ignoring — 80 points against 280 — and the planner makes that visible rather than leaving it to intuition.
Setting a target that means something
Work backwards from the universities actually on the list rather than from a round number. A target of 1400 that requires a 780 in Math when the current score is 600 is not a plan; the same 1400 reached by moving both sections 100 points usually is.
Where the planner says a target is unreachable from one section, that is a real constraint rather than a rounding artefact — a section caps at 800.

Common questions
How is the Digital SAT scored?
From 400 to 1600, as the sum of two section scores of 200 to 800 — Reading and Writing, and Math. The two sections carry equal weight.
How many questions do I need right for a 1400?
There is no fixed answer. College Board does not publish a raw-to-scaled table, conversions differ by form, and the adaptive second module affects how a raw count scales. Work from section scores on full practice tests instead.
Should I focus on Math or Reading and Writing?
Usually whichever is further from 800, because that is where the available points are. The two sections are weighted equally, so 60 points gained in either is worth exactly the same to the total.
