# Class Times for Students in Canada
> **Answer.** Canada is our hardest time zone. Toronto is nine hours behind Pakistan in summer and ten in winter; Vancouver is twelve or thirteen. Our weekday window lands in the Canadian morning, so the slots that work are before school on a weekday and, in the east, early on a weekend.
## The blunt version first
Our weekday teaching day runs 14:00–22:00 PKT. Sixteen o'clock in Toronto — the moment a Canadian child walks through the door with a bag on their shoulder — is two in the morning in Lahore. In Vancouver it is five in the morning. There is no arrangement, no premium and no scheduling cleverness that changes that, and we are not going to put a tutor in front of your child at that hour and call it teaching.
So the Canadian after-school slot, which is the natural one everywhere else in the world, is the one thing we cannot sell you. Everything below is about the two windows that genuinely work.
## The slot that works everywhere in Canada
Seven o'clock in the morning, local time, before school. It works in every Canadian time zone, and the further west you are the more ordinary the Pakistani hour it corresponds to — which is the opposite of what most families expect.
These are the winter conversions. In summer, when Canadian clocks go forward and Pakistan's do not, subtract an hour from each Pakistani figure.
- 07:00 in Halifax = 16:00 PKT
- 07:00 in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal = 17:00 PKT
- 07:00 in Winnipeg = 18:00 PKT
- 07:00 in Regina = 18:00 PKT, every week of the year — Saskatchewan does not change its clocks
- 07:00 in Calgary or Edmonton = 19:00 PKT
- 07:00 in Vancouver = 20:00 PKT
## Weekends, and why they favour the east
Our weekend window is 10:00–20:00 PKT. In Toronto that runs from around midnight to 10:00 local in winter and to 11:00 in summer, so a 09:00 Saturday class is comfortable and a Saturday afternoon one is impossible. In Halifax it is an hour better.
Move west and it closes. In Calgary the window ends around 08:00 local; in Vancouver it ends around 07:00. That is why we tell Pacific-coast families plainly that weekends are not their answer and weekday mornings are, rather than letting them discover it after a fortnight of trying to book something that does not exist.
The single exception in the west is the summer holiday, which is the next section.
## July and August are a different country
Once Canadian schools break up, the morning constraint disappears and the arithmetic suddenly reads well. Ten o'clock in Toronto in July is 19:00 in Lahore — the middle of our teaching evening. Midday in Toronto is 21:00 PKT. That gives an eastern-Canadian family a three-hour band of late-morning slots for two months, which is more usable time than the rest of the year offers put together.
In the west it is narrower but no longer empty: 10:00 in Vancouver is 22:00 PKT, right at the end of our day, so a single late-morning slot becomes available where none existed in term time.
This is why almost all of our serious Canadian work is done in July and August. If a student needs to close a real gap — a year of missed algebra, a jump from Grade 8 to a GCSE syllabus — the summer is where we would put it, and term-time sessions become maintenance rather than the main event.
## Is a 07:00 lesson actually a good idea?
Sometimes, and less often than the timetable suggests. Teenagers do not fall asleep an hour earlier because an alarm has been set an hour earlier, so a class that costs an hour of sleep four mornings a week is usually a bad trade even when the mathematics goes well.
What works, in our experience: two mornings a week rather than four; forty-five minutes rather than sixty; and using the time for practice, marking review and questions rather than for new content, because a first encounter with an unfamiliar idea at seven in the morning does not stick as well as one at seven in the evening. New material goes in the weekend slot or the summer.
And if none of that fits your household, say so and we will tell you honestly that a tutor in Canada or the United States is a better match for your week. We would rather lose the enrolment than sell you a class your child comes to resent.
## What changes the answer
- In July and August the Canadian school day is out of the way, and late-morning slots open up in the eastern provinces.
- Saskatchewan stays on Central Standard Time all year and the Yukon on UTC−7, so those two never drift when the rest of the country changes clocks.
- A 07:00 lesson is a reasonable ask twice a week and a bad one four times a week, particularly for a teenager.

## Questions
### Can we have a class after school in Toronto?
No. Four in the afternoon in Toronto is two in the morning in Pakistan, and the same relationship holds across the country. This is the one question about Canada with a flat answer, and it is better heard now than after three weeks of trying to find a slot that cannot exist.
### Does daylight saving move our class time?
Yes, by an hour, twice a year — and always on the Canadian side, because Pakistan never changes its clocks. Canada changes on the same dates as the United States, on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. Saskatchewan and the Yukon do not change at all, so their slots are fixed permanently.
### Is Saturday afternoon possible in Vancouver?
No. Our weekend window closes at 20:00 PKT, which is about 07:00 in Vancouver. For Pacific-coast families the weekend is the worst option rather than the best one, which inverts the usual advice. Weekday mornings before school, and the summer holiday, are where the real availability sits.
### Do you record the classes?
Every one of them, and it matters more for Canadian families than for anyone else. A 07:00 class that gets missed because a child overslept is not lost — it is watched that evening. Over a term that recovers several hours of teaching that would otherwise simply be gone.
### Why not just hire more tutors on Canadian hours?
Because the tutors are in Pakistan, and a Canadian after-school slot is a Pakistani night shift. We could staff it and the teaching would be worse, which is the whole reason we publish the window rather than quietly stretching it. The honest version of this service in Canada is a morning and summer service.
